CSRC Forest Ecosystems Group: Resources
computing

The Forest Ecosystems Studies Group maintains a network of several Unix and Windows based workstations. Additionally CSRC researchers share the computing and mass storage resources offered by the RCC (located in the EOS building).

Available software:
  • ESRI ARC/Info (GIS)
  • ERDAS Imagine (Remote sensing)
  • Research Systems ENVI (Remote sensing)
  • perl/ksh (scripting environments)
  • gcc/g77 [and MIPSpro cc/f77] (C and Fortran compilers)
  • Research Systems IDL (data processing, analysis and visulization)

The group website is maintained by Julian Jenkins.

  • laboratory

Within the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space, the Forest Ecosystems Studies Group operates the Forest Ecosystems Research Lab. The laboratory is equipped with a TrAAcs for automatically analyzing ammonium and nitrate in soil solution, an NIR spectrometer for measuring foliar reflectance spectra and a TOC-5000 total organic carbon analyzer.

The Lab is supervised by Alison Magill

    field

Field research such as surveys and manipulations of the forest ecosystem are primarily conducted at two sites in New England. The Harvard Forest, a forestry research site located in central Massachusetts, operated by Harvard University, and Hubbard Brook, a USDA research forest in New Hampshire's White Mountains.
